FABSCRAP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to end commercial textile "waste". To maximize the value of unused fabric, FABSCRAP is a convenient and transparent service, is an affordable and accessible materials resource, and is educating and empowering a Community of changemakers.
FABSCRAP is so excited to bring their monthly Craft Night to Another Tomorrow! Show off your crafts and/or join their sewing circle to strengthen your seams and your community!
How it works:
Makers are encouraged to bring and show off their crafts made from FABSCRAP materials while...
Others work on their handcraft projects
We all admire, share resources, and build community for an evening of camaraderie and skill-sharing with others who love to create.
***While there's no formal instruction, experienced menders will be on hand to offer guidance and encouragement.
Light food & refreshments provided.
What to expect:
Showing off your crafts
Experimenting with materials, techniques, and ideas
Admiring others' crafts
Mingling with like-minded New Yorekrs!
Troubleshooting repairs
Whole or small group sharing
Learning or sharing from the person sitting next to you
Guidance from community menders!
All welcome - no experience needed! We know how easy it is for these projects to pile up or be forgotten. FABSCRAP's Craft Night provides accountability through a recurring communal space to share, learn, and work on any/all handcraft projects. The goal of handcraft night is not necessarily finishing a project. Though this often happens, handcraft night is meant to be a time to come together as a community to slow down, support, and share.
Non-exhaustive list of projects you could bring:
Small holes
Stains
Missing button(s)
Rips
Worn aress
All fibers & fabrics
Brand new, used, or vintage
Loose thread and/or seams
and more!
Your donations and purchases from FABSCRAP’s online store supports their work and allows them to continue hosting these events. Stay in touch with them at fabscrap.org and on Instagram at @fab_scrap.
