Join the Lower East Side Ecology Center to steward trees and chat with our Curbside Compost Staff in the Lower East Side!
WHAT TO EXPECT...
Volunteers will help remove weeds and litter, apply compost made from NYC food scraps, and plant bulbs in local tree beds. Kneeling, squatting, or lifting might be among the physical activities. Our Curbside Compost staff will also be present to chat about different composting options in NYC. They will also be giving away countertop compost bins and informational leaflets while supplies last.
Meeting spot is at the triangle park across from 1 Ludlow Street.
WHAT TO WEAR...
Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Gloves, tools and materials will be provided.
WHAT TO BRING...
Water bottle and small snack if desired.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS...
Street tree care events serve to both create awareness about NYC's urban ecology and educate residents on the multitude of benefits healthy trees provide our neighborhoods. The idea is for the food scraps to be repurposed and redistributed back to the community as compost through greening projects. Street tree care events are one of many ways we accomplish this mission and your participation helps to further this cause.
