A.R.T./New York’s Green Lighting Upgrade
A.R.T./New York was selected as a recipient for our 2017 NYC Theatre Greening Grant. With this support, the organization implemented energy-efficient upgrades by installing 48 LED light bulbs and 4 Eco Dimmer light switches in the Great Room at their South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. These improvements contributed to a more sustainable facility and set a precedent for integrating eco-conscious practices into their day-to-day operations. We invited A.R.T./New York to share deeper insights into the impact of their work.

With dimmable switches we can regulate the amount of light/electricity used in our Great Room. LED bulbs use less electricity, saving on our ConEd bills. And in the long run, with the Eco Dimmer bulbs we will save a huge amount of money and time on replacing burnt out bulbs. (It has been wonderful to not have to pull out a ladder each week to replace CFL bulbs!)

We announced the grant award at our staff meeting shortly after receiving it and all were very pleased. We inform our renters using the space in person daily of the dimmable function, which helps immensely when the space is used for special events and performances to create ambiance.

It is a great program and has the potential to help a great number of theaters reduce costs and their carbon footprint. There are always upgrades to be made to this old building to make it more eco-friendly!
